Manchester United want to replace Anthony Martial with a surprise name

Martial will be a huge miss for the Red Devils against Chelsea, especially as Jesse Lingard may also be unavailable after he limped out with a muscle strain in the same match.

Solskjaer is keeping his fingers crossed the pair don’t face extended spells out.

He said: “Jesse and Anthony give us something, let’s hope they’re not too serious. They’re muscle injuries, so we’ll just have to wait a couple of days.

“They [PSG] had the momentum after the first goal and controlled the game. You could see that we hadn’t played at this level for a while and we will have to learn.

It was an experience that can go either way, it’s not going to be a season defining one, it’s one we have to learn from.”

Manchester United fans have been reacting to the news on social media, and many have responded to a Twitter poll conducted by the MEN, revealing who they would like to see fill in against Chelsea.

And a surprising 42 per cent of the vote – the majority – would like to see youngster Tahith Chong start on the left in place of Martial.

After Chong, 34 per cent would like to see Marcus Rashford, 19 per cent Alexis Sanchez and finally 5 per cent Juan Mata.
