There was a heated exchange between Ashley Young and Dele Alli during the opening 45 minutes of today’s Premier League clash between Manchester United and Tottenham.
The two sides are currently locked in action at Old Trafford, having come into the fixture level in 2nd place in the English top-flight table.
United came out of the blocks in impressive fashion, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men soon worked their way into proceedings, with Eric Dier and Harry Winks looking impressive in the middle of the park.
While chances were few and far between for either side during the first-half, there were a couple of talking points, with the main one coming via an argument between Ashley Young and Dele Alli.
After Moussa Sissoko had earned a free-kick for the visitors following a foul from Young, the United star had a couple of choice words for the French midfielder.
Dele Alli attempted to diffuse the situation by ushering Young away from the scene, only for a heated exchange to break out between the pair.
The referee quickly called both players over to calm proceedings down, but the verbals continued as they left the scene.
And, in footage emerging on Twitter from the aftermath of the exchange, exactly what Young shouted at Alli can seemingly be deciphered via lipreading:
If Young did indeed utter ‘where’s your momma now?’, then the jibe could be in reference to an interview given by Alli’s parents to the DailyMail earlier this year, during which they revealed that they had not seen the Tottenham star for two years.
